Missiles hit Eritrean capital, Asmara, after Tigray threatens to attack Eritrea

There are reports that missiles have hit the Eritrean capital, Asmara.

The reports, which come from Eritreans in the diaspora who have spoken to residents, suggest that the airport and Ministry of Information were hit.

Residents of Asmara said there were very loud explosions.

A residential complex at the Sembel residential complex, which is home to some 1,200 families in the southwest of the city, is said to have received a missile strike.

There is reported to be a blackout in the city, with some people fleeing the urban area.

The attack follows statements broadcast on Tigray television today, saying that Eritrea would be among Tigray’s targets. Other targets that were mentioned were in Ethiopia.

This comes after reports that Eritrean troops have been involved in the fighting in Tigray, including shelling the town of Humera.

Sources close to the Eritrean government confirmed that missiles had been fired at Asmara, but denied that the capital had been hit, saying that they landed in the countryside.

Analysts point out that the Tigrayans would have taken possession of Ethiopia’s heavy weaponry when they seized the Northern Command base in the Tigray capital, Mekelle, when the conflict broke out, ten days ago.

The missile strike on Asmara and the Tigrayan reports of attacks by the Eritrean army means that what began as a civil war has become an international conflict.

  1. I ADVISE TPLF led TNDF to hit all targets of parties involved in attacking its territories unlawfully & take appropriate proportional response on the imminent ENEMY positions especially AMAHARA, PP OFFICIALS 4killo, Bishoiftu Air forces basis, etc whenever, wherever, whatever it believed appropriate!!!

  2. A coward will always be a coward, a selfish and disgraceful group of people that are leading the tigriane people to a dark future with it’s brother Ethiopian people and Eritrean counterparts. My advice is if they are man enough to face their fate let them leave the people alone and face his imaginary challengers to power in dialogue and blood out in the desert instead of using tigriane people as a human shelid and bombarding targets on civilian population.

  3. The only weapon that should be brought to this battlefield is the ballot. If the Ethiopian people want Abiy Ahmed as their leader let them express their will in an election. Let the same treatment be given to Isaias Afeworki. Any other move to seize control or destroy supposed enemies is idiotic madness. For the sake of civilization and to preserve the reputations of all Habesha people, this violence must stop. Now.
