Eritrean Electric Authority hand consumers massive bills

ELPARadio Erena sources in Asmara have confirmed that the Eritrean Electric Authority (Cedao) has started a campaign to collect arrears.

The authority took a lot of time to register last year’s arrears and has finally presented bills to subscribers.

The charges, which came as shock to electricity users, are between 300 to 1000 Nakfa for homes.

Factories, restaurants and small workshops have to pay even more.

The recent move has generated frustration and silent anger because Cedao services were paralyzed by continuous blackouts throughout last year.

Many electricity users will struggle to pay the bills, since average salaries are 1200 Nakfa a month.
