Eritrea asks Israel for compensation for every Eritrean deportee

In his recent interview, president Isaias Afwerki said that his government asked the Israeli government a sum of $50,000 for every Eritrean refugee deported from Israeli to Eritrea.

His statement came in the second part of his interview with Eritrean TV on Sunday, 21 January.

The president disclosed that Israeli government has asked Eritrea to accept thousands of Eritrean “illegal” immigrants, but Eritrea had replied that Israel should pay $50,000 for every returnee, as compensation and to help train the refugees vocationally, so that they could start a normal life.

One Monday, 22 tens of thousands of Eritreans gathered in front of the Rwandan embassy in Tel Aviv to protest against an agreement between Israel and Rwanda in terms of which many Eritrean refugees will be deported.
